At the far north of Montenegro at the foot of the famous Komovi and massive of Mt. Durmitor, two small mountain creeks, Opasanica and Verusa make Tara River and flow of impressive 149 kilometers. Navigable part of the river is a bit less than 100 km in the last twenty miles of its course the river Tara itself makes both natural and formal border between the Republic of Srpska (BiH), and Montenegro.

Speaking of rafting, complete floating part, the Tara River Canyon can be divided into two parts, the top and bottom part of the Canyon. And based on these divisions, there are only two entry points for all rafting tours.

In the upper part of the Canyon, starting point for rafting is „Splaviste“, located near the famous bridge on Tara River (Djurdjevica bridge), and near tourist center of Zabljak. From the initial rafting point rafting tours through a whole canyon of the river Tara, i.e. rafting tours in which you pass the entire navigable part of the river canyon on route from Zabljak to Scepan Polje. Depending on the water level and time period of the year in which we pass through the canyon, such tours always last two or three days and include overnight in one of the camps, which are located in the canyon, "Radovan Luka" or camp "Encijan".

In the lower part of the canyon starting point for a rafting is Brštanovica. The location is situated fifteen kilometers upstream from the border crossing ŠÄ‡epan Polje in the heart of the canyon, and where exactly is our camp Encijan. Due to attractiveness of the lower part of the canyon, and the largest concentration of cascades and rapids in this section, this section is the most popular rafting stage of the river Tara, in the summer season, several thousands of tourists, adventurers and all other lovers of water and nature pass the stage.

The attractiveness of the rafting stage, which is often called the "adrenaline stage“, as well as the complete credibility of the river Tara, were the main reasons why River Tara hosted the World Rafting Championships in 2009.

Rafting itself, never runs the same time and depends largely on the raft stage for which you choose, and of course the time period and the month, and the water level and speed of the river.

And really no rafting trip on the river Tara is the same, and every trip is a different story. A proof for this is the fact that most attractive stage of some 20 kilometers from Brštanovica to ŠÄ‡epan Polje, we know in April or May pass in about 30-45 minutes, while in July and August trip along same stage takes about 3 or even 4 hours.
